Cowbells, over time, have found their way into many sports and in many facets.  The origin, as we know it dates to the early 1900s in Switzerland farm communities.  Switzerland, as is true in many European countries, is known for ski racing in extremes through the winter.  While livestock was corralled close to home and in their barns, their cowbells simply hung on the walls until summer and warm weather allowed them to be out in the countryside.  Farm families had time to cheer and compete in these wild outdoor events.  Sadly, gloved hands were just not loud enough to show how truly exciting it all was.  Cowbells were the solution!  Loud enough to be heard!  Loud enough to show a level of respect and excitement!  Just so wonderfully loud!!!
